As a lover of video games across multiple platforms I’m a little sad to see the event fade away, but I think that companies have moved to a system that is working. I can remember many summers tuning into YouTube to watch the event and make a list of all of the games I’d want to try out. Those aforementioned companies had also pulled out from E3 2023 prior to the event’s cancellation, with most opting to host their own digital showcases at various times throughout the year. Nintendo, Xbox, Playstation, and other publishers have moved to digital showcases or smaller events throughout the year.
The event was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID, held digitally in 2021, and cancelled last year in order to focus on revitalizing the showcase. A link to the Text Walkthrough is also provided. The email does not make any mention of holding the show in years to come, but this cancellation, in my opinion, does not bode well for the future for the event. They and event co-organizers Reedpop have officially announced that both the digital and physical events for E3 2023 have been cancelled. The ESA, via the official E3 Twitter account, has since confirmed IGN’s report.
According to the email, E3 did not garner enough interest for organizers to execute the event in a way that showcases the size and impact of the video game industry.
